Depression - It Can Affect Everyone

June 19th, 2008 by michiganarnold

By Michael Russell About 21 million people suffer from depression. Depression affects the way one feels about themselves. It involves the body, mood and thoughts. If a person is depressed it can affect the way they sleep and eat. Having depression is not the same as feeling blue temporarily. Despite of what some people think it is not a sign of weakness either. If a person with depression doesn’t get any treatment then it can last for weeks, months or even years. Treatment can help most people overcome depression. There are different types of depression. The three most common types are major depression, dysthymia and bipolar disorder. Major depression is a combination of symptoms. Having major depression will affect your everyday life such as working, sleeping and eating. Dysthymia is a less severe form of depression. It involve long-term chromic symptoms, however they are not disabling like major depression. It will keep them from feeling good. People with dysthymia can suffer from an episode of major depression. Bipolar disorder is sometimes called manic-depressive disorder. Bipolar is characterized by cycling mood changes. Severe highs are called mania or manic. And lows are depression. Sometimes the cycle changes are dramatic and rapid. Most of the time the cycle is gradual. When in the depression cycle, a person can get most symptoms of major depression. When they cycle to mania, they will often have lots of energy, be very talkative and overactive. Mania can affect judgment and social behavior. This may cause serious problems and lead to embarrassment. If the mania is untreated it can worsen to a psychotic state. Depression can be inherited. It often runs in families. The question is, is it inherited genetically or learned behavior. Depression can occur in somebody who has no family. Bipolar studies have shown that families, whose members of each generation develop bipolar, that those with illness have a different genetic makeup than those who do not become ill with the disorder. Whether the depression disorder is inherited or not, depression is associated with the changes in the brain structure and or brain function. Women have been known to experience depression more often that men. For women many hormonal factors contribute to the higher rate of depression. Especially during menstrual cycle changes, pregnancy, post partum and menopause. Also environmental stress factors such as single parenthood, caring for children and aging parents. Men are less likely to develop depression, however men are more likely to deny that they are depressed and unfortunately doctors are less likely to suspect it. The rate of suicide is higher in men, but more women attempt suicide. The rate of suicide increases in men around the age of 70 and peaks after the age of 85. Depression in men may often be masked by the use of alcohol or drugs. They may work extremely long hours. If a man realizes he is in depression he is more unlikely to seek help for treatment. Some symptoms of depression are sad, anxious, feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, pessimism, loss of interest in pleasurable hobbies, fatigue, hard time concentrating, insomnia or oversleeping, weight gain or loss, thoughts of suicide and persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, like headaches, chronic pain, and digestive disorders. Here are some examples of mania; excessive happiness, unusual irritability, lack of need for sleep, increased talking, racing thoughts, increased sexual desire, a big increase in energy, poor judgment and inappropriate behavior. Choosing The Correct Flower Girl Dress

June 7th, 2008 by michiganarnold

By Nitu Kumar Flower girls are perhaps the ones that grab the most attention at weddings. That makes it very important that you select the the right flower girl ensemble for the sweetest little members of your wedding party. When selecting the perfect dress for your flower girl you should give style and comfort utmost priority. The best way to go forward is to have the flower girl dress style complement the wedding decor, theme and style of the bridesmaids’ gowns. Though it would be ideal for your flower girl to wear a mini version of the bridal gown, but it is important that her dress should be appropriate for her age. A four-year-old flower girl in a strapless dress or in a slinky spaghetti straps would not be appropriate. While shopping for for just the right dress remember to be practical and give comfort a good deal of thought. If it is choose floor-length dress you are going for, make sure the hem of the dress is at least two inches from the floor. You wouldn’t want your flower girl to be tripping. When it comes to fabric choices, the popular ones will include satin, organza, velvet and lace , or a combination of these. Whichever fabric you go for, do ensure that the fabric fits the season. Remember that the flower girl will be wearing this outfit almost all day and into the evening so keep away from itchy fabrics. Usually the flower girl’s parents pay for the wedding attire. However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea if the bride and groom buy the flower girl dress as a gift. Prices for flower girl ensembles usually begin at $75 and can run up to several hundred dollars. Medical Billing Businesses Are Growing Fast And Providing A Needed Service For Doctors

May 17th, 2008 by michiganarnold

By Randy Wilson Youve seen the commercials and web sites about starting medical billing businesses in your home. You cant just start calling doctors and telling them you will take care of the billing for them. It is their income and they want to know you are a true business and that you have experience. So, before any thing else, look into classes to help you get those medical billing jobs. There are several ways to be certified. One is to go to your local community college and see if they offer a medical billing business opportunity course. Many of them do or they can tell you whom to contact. The other option is to check into some courses to study medical billing at home. These are usually less expensive and you can take the time to go over areas as often as you like. Either way take the classes and get certified. While taking the classes, begin creating a medical billing business plan. This is an essential document. It will help you get all the information and start up costs you will need to know, before opening your business. Most medical billing businesses start up costs average between $2000 and $5000. The medical billing business plan will help you budget all the necessary things so you will know how much you need before you get started. You can go to your local Small Business Administration office or visit them on the internet. You can get sample business plans and forms that can help you create your medical billing business plan. They will also be able to tell you whom to contact in local and state governments regarding regulations and requirements in your area. If you know the requirements, you will be better off and your business is more likely to succeed. You may want to start out you medical billing business from home as a sole proprietor, but check into all the types of business entities before choosing one. They each have advantages and disadvantages, so it is best to see which one fits you best. You should also decide on a name for your business and register that name with the appropriate agencies. Deciding on your medical billing businesses office location and equipment needs is your next step. You can either purchase or lease all new equipment or use the stuff you already have in your home. It is best to choose a room that is going to be your office and put all your equipment and file cabinets in the room, to ensure you keep your records together. You have probably already told your family that you will be starting a business of medical billing from home. Now, as you finish your classes, and get your office together, you will need to remind them that when you are in your office you are working. If you have younger children, make sure you have someone who can keep an eye on them during your business hours. Being available to your clients is essential to build your client base and credibility. You may be told about medical billing businesses software in your classes. Dont take their word for it, check several out. Ask for a demo of the software. Find one that you are comfortable using and purchase it. However, watch out for companies that promise you clients or say they will find clients for you. This is usually a ploy and never truly works out. You can probably find the clients you will need on your own. Now that your classes are done, and your office is ready, it is time to start advertising. Talk to your family doctor and let him know about your medical billing jobs. Tell him you are certified and are accepting new clients. Even if your doctor is not interested, he may have a referral or two for you. You will also want to create a sales letter and brochure announcing the opening of your medical billing businesses. If you dont feel you can write one on your own, hire someone to write it for you. Check with the local college and see if a business or marketing students would be interested. This helps them and you at the same time for a minimal of the cost of hiring a professional marketing consultant. Send these medical billing businesses letter to all the doctors in your area, state, country. Medical billing from home can be done anywhere. You are not restricted to one area, but it is best to start in areas close to your home. This is not a get rich quick career. It takes time to build your medical billing at home client base. But with time and hard work, your medical billing business opportunity will give you the income you deserve. Copyright Randy Wilson, All Rights Reserved. Getting Grandma & Grandpa to Use Email III

May 9th, 2008 by michiganarnold

By John Leatherby Isn’t it great, to get up in the morning stretch and feel good. If you have something exciting on your mind, it makes it a lot easier to feel that way. When you email with friends, relatives and grandchildren, the first thing you do in the morning is going to be, turn on the computer, and click on email, and watch what comes up to read. You’re going to love to have all the things your grandchildren are doing to tell the rest of your friends and relatives. Because, you’ll know what’s going on. And, they’ll know what’s going on with you. You don’t have to write things you feel are private to you. But, sometimes talking about it makes it better. And if you have a certain pain, or the doc tells you about a problem, you may find that somebody else has already had it, or is expecting the same news. Then, you really have something to talk about. You’ll have questions and so will they. And, this will click into the memory bank in your brain, and tell you about when your parents or grandparents went through the same era. I can remember the afternoon, we went by to pick up my parents to take them out to dinner. I walked in the bedroom and my dad had his pants down putting his hemorrhoids back in place. Has that ever happen to you? My dad and I laughed then and I still laugh when I think about it. They say “Out of the mouths of babes”. Well, it can come out of the mouths of a Grandma or Grandpa too. Sometimes it’s better to face and laugh at our adversities. It builds fonder memories in your brains bank of humor. Just like the first time you walked in a room and, for the first time, your mom and dad were naked. Shocking wasn’t it? Those things happen and they will continue to happen. Might as well talk about them and make it a pleasant memory. It’s not hurting any body. Just, don’t shout this out at a party or family dinner. Do it on email. My morning is beginning, like this. I got up, slipped into a t-shirt and pair of shorts, picked up my pills and glass of water and set them by the computer (I’ll take them at 9:00). Then while the computer is down loading, I walked out and brought in the newspaper. When I get back with the paper, it’s time to feed the cat and prepare my oatmeal. Now, here I am at the computer. Good Morning. Dead Sea Scrolls

May 4th, 2008 by michiganarnold

By Sharon White The boys discovery was considered to be one of the greatest findings as these scrolls opened the new stage in one of the most powerful world religions. The scrolls were not always complete, but the biggest part of them is composed of fragmentary texts or documents of different kinds and they date approximately from the end of the third century B.C. to the seventh or eighth century A.D. The documents are Biblical manuscripts that are believed to be the most ancient copies of the Old Testament. Excluding the book of Esther, we find that all the Old Testament is represented in the documents of Qumran. The mentioned manuscripts gave us a better understanding in what concerns the history of texts related to the bible during the period of the Second Temple. The scrolls found in the caves are early copies of biblical books which were written in the Hebrew and Aramaic languages, they include chants, prayers, pseudepigrapha, which are Jewish writings that are related to ancient personalities of the bible, such as Enoch or the patriarchs, and documents, as experts believe, correspond to the beliefs of a specific Jewish society that was present at the location of Qumran. The Essenes, the community that is supposed to have written the scrolls, had an unbelievable capability of correctly predicting the events of the future. They also had a special philosophy different than any other. The amount of information that the Dead Sea Scrolls carried on to us is enormous. Today, we have a better understanding in what concerns the important time periods of the history of Judaism. The article was produced by the writer of masterpapers.com.
